you can skip this oneMonday, Aug. 16, 2004 - 5:50 p.m.Oh man, two days after the end of spending freeze and I’m already heavily in debt. Friday was payday and coincidentally the last day of spending freeze. The plan was to head downtown on Saturday to try to look for parts for my latest hi-fi project: the tube pre-amp. Whatever I can’t find locally I would order online or buy off eBay. Saturday morning I needed to stick some gas in the car seeing as I would probably be driving around all day. After that it was to the bank to deposit my paycheck. Then it was down to Queen St. to electronics store number one. I was in there for a good half-hour trying to find the stuff on my list and only managed to cross off 4 items. I dropped by HMV in the remote chance they had the CD Electric Samurai by Tomoyasu Hotei. No luck. I also checked out my favorite store MEC to see if they had any super-light, single-person, backpacking tents in stock (for my proposed solo-backpacking trip in September). No luck. I didn’t want to leave downtown because a) I had a really kick-ass, free parking spot and b) it was a warm sunny day and oh the downtown chicks. But I was on a mission so I hopped back into the little Honda and drove to electronics store number two. Well I suck because how long have I lived in this city and I still don’t know my way around downtown Toronto. So I kinda got a little lost but that was okay because there were so many hot chicks out jogging. Finally I found electronics store number two but the Saturday lunchtime traffic was so bad I didn’t want to bother looking for parking so I proceeded to electronics store number three. Electronics store number three was located in some industrial plaza somewhere out in the burbs in the west end of the city. It didn’t even look like it was opened. All I can say is WHAT A DUMP. It looked like someone’s garage with old dusty electronic parts scattered on shelves and on the floor. I was outta there fast. By now it’s 2-something and I haven’t even had lunch yet and there’s still one more electronics store to check out. So I started heading towards home on Steeles and wouldja believe there is no drive-thru McShits along the way? I made it to electronics store number four by 3-something but only managed to cross off 3 items. I had enough. So today I ordered the rest of the parts online and even though I knew exactly how much all the parts would cost it was still painful, as in several hundred painful. And of course it dawned on me sometime during the weekend that I have to pay for my auto insurance before the end of this month. Another several hundred painful. Looks like spending freeze is going to kick in a lot sooner this time.
