listsFriday, Jul. 23, 2004 - 12:16 p.m.So the birthday came and went and nothing exciting happened. I had specifically told people that I am boycotting all acksee birthday functions this year so don’t even bother. And I got my wish. I went out for lunch with some people at the fish tank and had a quiet dinner with the folks and the sis. And I still haven’t collected all my birthday gifts either. Am I the only one who makes a birthday wish list? It seems like no one else does. Whenever I ask someone what they want for their birthday they always say something like “oh, I don’t know” or “let me think about it” or they name something outrageous that they know I would never be able to afford like “a new car” or “a new house.” My thinking is if you don’t know what you want then you get nothing. No sense in me buying you something you don’t want. I, on the other hand, am always wanting something. Ask me what I want for my birthday and I can rattle of 10 items from my birthday wish list that I’ve been working on since Christmas. And that’s not including my Christmas wish list. I always make sure I have a nice wide price range to cater to everyone’s budget. Of course I’ll throw in a few big-ticket items to make the list more interesting or just in case someone really does want to buy me that $600 CD player or a new car. People always buy me the “grown-up” items on my list. I always have a few toys or novelty items on my lists but no one seems to pay any attention to those. No one bought me a Lego Mars Exploration Rover or the four Wham-O superballs I requested. And it’s not like these items are hard to find. They’re readily available at Toys R Us, I checked. Maybe I need to provide more information on my list besides pictures and descriptions, like where to buy it or a how-badly-I-want-it rating. After I collect all my birthday presents in the next couple of weeks I can start cross-referencing my birthday list and Christmas list from last year. Then I can start working on my Christmas 2004 list. Rest assured, it will be bigger and better than last year’s.
