ass what?

Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 - 4:47 p.m.

So me and buddy at work are convinced that one of our co-workers in the fish tank, namely O.C., has Asperger Syndrome. This is described as a neurobiological disorder similar to autism. As we looked down the list of symptoms, they all matched O.C.’s odd and obsessive behavior. It has gotten to the point where buddy and me listen to loud music through headphones to drown out his constant mumbling to himself, over dramatic sighing, and bizarre outbursts. Luckily I sit facing my corner window so I don’t have to watch him picking his nose and then sucking on his finger. Buddy is not so lucky, he sits facing O.C. I think buddy should move to another workstation.

So now it’s like all his weirdness and nastiness is not his fault and making fun of him would be as mean as teasing the retarded (sorry, mentally challenged) kids back in grade school. But I still find it almost impossible to work with him (thankfully I don’t have to) and his close proximity still causes me undue stress. And I still hate know-it-alls and people who invade my personal space. So it’s not like I have to be nice to him or be his friend. I will just continue what I’ve been doing: turning up the music and pretending he’s not there.

On the topic of turning up the music and drowning out background noise, I saw these kick ass Shure sound isolating earphones. They were given high marks by some speaker designer guru. The madre always told me not to shove stuff into my ears.
