mother nature scowlWednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 - 5:43 p.m.Yesterday there was some quasi excitement in the fish tank. We got an IM from our project manager that our demo sites were down. That’s strange, they were working yesterday. We checked the servers. Apparently someone had wiped the database server and database backups for the demo sites. It was a bit of a fiasco what with cursing and politics and finger pointing. Luckily someone had a backup of the database. The problem was resolved by early afternoon and the rest of the day was doldrums as usual. Call me a sick freak but I’m actually looking forward to hurricane Isabel. Yes it will probably cause billions in damages and I feel bad for all the people who have to evacuate and leave their homes at the mercy of Mother Nature. But hurricane means strong winds and strong winds mean big waves so I just might get to go shoot some pictures of big crashing waves. Although Isabel most likely won’t make it all the way to Toronto we’re still expecting the remnants to cause some gale force winds and heavy rains by weeks end. I think I’m a severe weather junky. I get excited when there’s a storm looming on the horizon. Thunderstorms, snow storms, hail storms, ice storms, hell even thick fog. I love being reminded that Mother Nature can kick our ass anytime she wants to. I’ve been out camping in thunderstorms, paddled in meter high waves, driven in blizzards, rode my bike in pea-soup fog and loved every minute of it. I think I have found my look. I don’t look good when I smile or when I’m expressionless. I think I look best with a bit of a frown or scowl. Like Clint Eastwood, he’s not famous for his smile, he’s famous for his Dirty Harry go ahead, make my day scowl. Or how about Ice Cube as Doughboy in Boyz N' The Hood, I think he scowled throughout the entire movie. Okay I’m a freak. I just spent the last hour reading the script of Pulp Fiction. Home time.
