grumpy old kidThursday, Sept. 04, 2003 - 4:25 p.m.I must be getting old. Ever since my radio station changed their genre from MTV-hiphop-dance-pop music to 80’s retro, I haven’t bothered finding a new station. And I find myself quite enjoying those old tunes. Yes, that’s a sign of getting old when you find the music of your youth more pleasing than the noisy trash that today’s youth listens to. But I probably still look like a damn kid because yesterday at Henry’s the cashier chick asked if I had a student card. I should have played along and said I forgot it at home and tried to get a student discount. Me and my quick thinking and lightning sharp wit just said, “Nope.” I’m still a child at heart though because I would do things that a kid would do. Example, when I was about 8 years old I got a pair of funky orange winter boots. These were like those big poofy astronaut booties. They were end-of-season sales so I didn’t actually need to wear them until next winter. But I thought they were so cool I wore them around the house and in the backyard, all summer. The same thing happened with swim goggles. I think I was around the same age. I wore the swim goggles around the house and in the bathtub for a whole week before I actually made it to a swimming pool. So with my kayak hankerings lately, I’ve been considering buying a PFD, kinda like a prelude to buying the kayak. But then I thought against that because I would probably end up wearing it around the house all winter looking like an idiot. Update on the cleansing. So the past 2 weeks I’ve been somewhat successful in maintaining my 50% raw fruit and veggies regimen (I’m not using the word diet because I am not on a diet). I don’t know if my colon is in the process of being cleansed but I do find that I go more often although in, um, smaller packages. I was an after work type of guy, but now I’m also a morning type of guy, sometimes a lunchtime type of guy. Always at home though, I try not to use the work facilities unless it’s a dire emergency. So we went out for lunch today because one of the fish tank fishies is swimming away to bigger and better waters. I don’t know this fishy very well but this is the fishy who reads at the urinals and doesn’t wash his hands. From my experience (this is my third job) when someone whom you don’t know very well leaves the company, that’s the day that you chat it up with them and realize gee they’re a pretty decent person and you’re kinda sorry to see them go. Companies should do the reverse. After someone’s first week at work, have a leaving-the-company-last-day-of-work lunch for him or her so that everyone gets to chat it up with the new guy. Or sump’m like that. I’m eBay-ing for the first time today. I’ve looked at stuff on it but never actually bid on anything. Today I saw a tripod that I wanted, over $150 at stores, roughly $69 converted from $US. I’ve always been skeptical about buying camera equipment from eBay, but a tripod should be pretty safe. Oh man, is it 5:00 yet?
