it was windyTuesday, Aug. 26, 2003 - 5:34 p.m.Okay, well it WAS windy when I left work yesterday. I was planning to leave at 6:00PM but by the time I was actually in my car and driving away it was 6:20PM. I still had to go home and pick up my camera gear but good thing the beach is only 25 minutes away and I made it there for the golden hour before sunset. By beach I don’t mean white, powdery sand on the ocean but more like a small strip of sand on Lake Ontario. It’s called Frenchman’s Bay and is right next to the Pickering nuclear power generating station. There’s a small marina inside the bay and a park with nature trails. It’s actually a pretty nice area that’s kinda tucked away. By the time I got to the beach there was no more wind and no more waves. But I drove all the way there to shoot some photos, mainly to finish off the roll in my old Canon EF. So I ended up taking some shots of nice, calm, flat Lake Ontario. Yay. One thing I noticed about Frenchman’s Bay is that there doesn’t seem to be a lot of boat traffic and it’s pretty calm and pretty good for kayaking. And it’s 25 minutes away. So if I do buy a kayak I have somewhere to go paddling on weekends and even after work. One of the reasons holding me back was that I would have nowhere to go paddling and it would all be a waste of money and waste of space in the garage. So cross off one reason but there is still another reason holding me back: $$. Yeah apparently these things are not cheap. I’m looking at a grand, even for a used one. I could so use a bonus right now. There is more to life than making lots of money or owning a house or driving a nice car. A lot of people seem to think those things are pretty darn important, that they reflect your status in society, that they are what defines you. That is all they want to talk about and that is what occupies their time. Well, I have a decent job, a roof over my head, a car that gets me from point A to point B, and I want to live life. If they don’t think that’s good enough they can kiss my skinny Chinese ass.
