next year

Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 - 4:11 p.m.

Last night I discreetly left the fish tank early (as in 5:45PM) to pick up SG and head downtown to JN’s place for dinner. Apparently they wanted to have an oyster night and I had mentioned to SG that I am so into eating oysters. A little bit of background on this JN chick: Way back in high school I had a crush on this Japanese chick. We had this on-and-off type of weird friendship and she was probably aware that I had the hots for her. At some point in time SG also had the hots for her so we were both kinda after the same chick, not that we were competitive or anything. SG became a better friend with her than I did but in the end neither of us got the girl because she ended up marrying some Japanese guy. Yes, SG and me share the bond of defeat. Okay it’s not like I’m all bitter and everything because I was snubbed by a high school crush, we’re all friends now.

Well I thought it would be a major oyster night but they had only bought a dozen oysters for the four of us. But JN did serve up some tasty dishes and her husband is a pretty cool guy in my books. And damn-it-all-to-hell he takes good photos too. We ate on the rooftop terrace of their downtown condo and sat around till it got dark chatting, laughing and reminiscing about our high school days. There were a few gardens up there and it was weird to hear crickets to my right and then look to my left to see the rooftop lights of the office towers. I got the grand tour of their 2-bedroom condo. It was small but cozy and they had freakin like 12-feet-high ceilings. I could SO live in a place like that.

That has kinda got me thinking that I wouldn’t mind buying a little condo downtown. Even though I would have to commute at least I would have my own place and the downtown chicks! And downtown offers so much more culture and everything is within walking distance and the downtown chicks. I would miss sitting out in my backyard and storing my junk in the garage and the 10-minute drive to work but the downtown chicks. I would probably have to cut back on buying toys and gadgets and camping gear and a sea kayak and clothes and shoes but the downtown chicks. I could go running downtown and see lots of downtown chicks. I live at home and everything but somehow all my hard-earned money still manages to spend itself so I don’t have that lovely lump of cash for a down payment. But I’m working on it. Not this year but maybe next year.

Tuesday I got my books from Amazon.ca: The Negative by Ansel Adams and Natural Way To Draw by Kimon Nicolaides. I started reading the first one. It’s encouraging.

On Tuesday when I went running, some chick walking her dog says hi to me. I think that was the first time a chick, or anyone for that matter, said hi to me while I was running. Interesting no? Today is a scorcher. Don’t know if I’ll be running.
