a lot about nothingMonday, Aug. 11, 2003 - 9:46 a.m.Friday night I met up with SG for dinner at the Japanese restaurant by my house. After dinner, we walked back to our cars and I noticed, “Dude, you left your lights on.” Well of course his car wouldn’t start after that and there were cars parked all around him and we didn’t feel like pushing his car around so we decided to go back later when there were less cars. He had to go to his brother’s house to check the mail so I ended up driving him. On the way there I took a couple shots of a nice sunset sky and the hydro fields to finish off the roll in the Olympus. SG also showed me where his brother “found” a big pile of old railway ties. It was really part of the railway yards and a pretty interesting place for photos. Then we went back and I got out the booster cables and jump started his car. That seems to happen to SG a lot. There weren’t any good nudy movies on Showcase or Bravo but I was still up till around 2:00AM. Saturday I slept in to almost noon, had a light breakfast and headed out. First stop was Black’s to get them to reprint the photos they screwed up and to drop off another two rolls. It took them two tries before they printed the correct ones and I ended up getting a bubble tea to kill time. Then I went to the Henry’s at Yonge and Steeles to buy some developer and BW film. I think I’ll have to go back to that one, cute oriental chick working the cash. There was some dude hanging around outside Henry’s asking people for spare change. His spiel was that he was down on his luck and he needed gas money to get home to Oshawa, which is about 60km from Toronto. People in the burbs aren’t used to panhandlers so most people gave him change probably out of shock. Then I headed back to the east end to use up my free car wash coupon. After that I had enough of driving around in the heat and the weekend traffic and the idiot weekend drivers. I went home to chill out a bit before heading downtown to meet up with AF1. I picked up the AF1 duo and we headed over to the Taste of the Danforth. We managed to find street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods and headed into the crowds. It was okay at first, the crowds were manageable and we tried some grilled salmon. Then there was a section where they had trampoline demonstration right in the middle of the street. That created a huge bottleneck and it became a mass of crammed, non-moving, agitated people. Soon people started pushing and there were a few exchanges of angry glares and words. That’s when it stopped being fun. At one point we were almost pushed over a baby stroller and then AF1 let out a few choice words and for a moment there was silence all around us. Then we finally got out of that fiasco and decided we had enough of crazy crowds and long lineups for food and we were going to have dinner in a restaurant instead. We had dinner at Goldfish (freakin $30 for dinner!) and then headed back to AF1’s condo to look at my sea kayak pictures. Well, my pictures must really suck because AF1W didn’t have a single comment, no “nice pictures” or anything like that. Or else they were so good she was in awe. I left by midnight and had a nice drive home. Again there was nothing to watch and again I somehow managed to stay up till 3:00AM this time. I woke up Sunday around noon and then went out with the sis and the madre to one of the Chinese malls for some dim sum. The dim sum restaurant was busy as is usual on a weekend and after about 20 minutes we said screw it and ate at the food court instead. Then we hung around while the madre bought some veggies at the Chinese supermarket. The rest of the afternoon I did pretty much nothing except surf and scan some negatives. I was planning to go running but somehow the Sunday afternoon laziness took over. Even with a little bit warm summer rain I would normally go running but that was my excuse yesterday. I had afternoon tea and looked out the window a few times and even after the rain stopped I was in no mood to go running. It’s Monday morning and I’m feeling all tired even though I did mostly nothing all weekend. Maybe I’ll go running tonight.
