all weather photography

Sunday, Aug. 03, 2003 - 11:53 a.m.

It’s Sunday on a long weekend and I’m sitting here in the fish tank. I am one third doing work, one third surfing and one third working on this entry. Yes my life is just way too exciting.

Friday I went back to Henry’s after work to buy some film. Then it was over to SG’s for a get together with some old high school friends. Yes, it’s official; everyone is married except for me. They all have their mortgages and cars and retirement plans and are going to live happily ever after. And of course there were the usual lets-find-acksee-a-girlfriend jokes and conversations. You should buy a condo downtown. You should buy a dog. You should sign up for cooking classes. Um yeah, take advice from married people who do nothing but sit at home and watch TV.

All the married people were tired by 10:30PM so they went home to sleep or cuddle in bed or watch TV or whatever married people do. SG and me ended up renting Ghost Ship.

Saturday morning SG and me went on another photography field trip bright and early at 8:00AM. This time we drove to the village of Elora near Guelph. We were suppose to check out the Elora Gorge but it was an overcast morning and by the time we got to Guelph it was raining. I only took one or two shots down in the Gorge and it was raining too hard so we headed back to the car. It was around 10:00AM and we decided to head to the Henry’s in Waterloo, which was about 30 minutes away. We managed to snap a few interesting photos of farm fields along the way. Okay so we’re not photojournalists or fashion-photographers, just a couple of amateurs driving around shooting corn and wheat.

Waterloo was where SG went to university so we drove around the city for a bit as he pointed out places he remembered. We finally found Henry’s and SG bought an Olympus Stylus Epic, which is a point-and-shoot camera renowned for its picture quality, low price, small size and all-weather capability. We drove around some more and it was still raining hard so we decided to have lunch at SG’s friend’s restaurant. They didn’t open for another half-hour and since it was probably going to rain for the rest of the day I decided to go back to Henry’s and pick up an Epic for myself.

After lunch we started heading back to Elora but then took a detour to check out the village of St. Jacobs. We walked up and down the crowded main street with the rest of the tourists (of course we weren’t tourists, we were photographers!) and then headed over to the farmer’s market. The Waterloo/Kitchener and Guelph areas are known for its Old Order Mennonite population so of course we saw lots of Mennonites at the farmer’s market and riding in horse and buggy on the country roads. After that we headed back to Elora and then walked around and snapped more photos before finally heading back to Toronto.

Last night I went and deleted my profile from Lavalife. I tried it for a year and nothing happened except for a few email exchanges and instant messages. I didn’t think it was going to work for me and I don’t believe in browsing through a catalog to pick out chicks based on some specs and then hoping I can impress said chicks with some slick, witty email or instant messages. So I made the executive decision and deleted my opening line and blurb about myself and all my other info that I had worked so hard on (cool, I made you say hard-on). I think I will just stick with meeting chicks the old fashion way, whatever that is and that wasn’t working either anyway.
